ASME to Host Events Focused on Education, Industry and Public Policy Priorities for EngineeringASMEs Washington D.C. Office has organized a number of highly anticipated events including the ASME zwischenstaatlich Mechanical Engineering Leadership Summit, the Engineering Public Policy Symposium, an ASME Connect networking event and a congressional briefing that will take place during the next two months.Now in its 30th year, the ASME International Mechanical Engineering Education Leadership Summit (MEED) will be held from March 20 to 23 in New Orleans, La. Featuring meetings, plenaries, briefings, receptions and more, MEED is a strategy and management forum for mechanical engineering education, industry and government leaders who are committed to collaborating toward the successful future of the field.To that end, ASMEs Industry Advisory Board (IAB) wil l convene its annual spring meeting in conjunction with MEED. The IAB and Committee on Engineering Education will hold crossover meetings and discussions related to accreditation and program criteria, among other topics. For more information regarding this meeting, and to learn more about MEEDs program, registration and logistics, please visit the 2019 MEED website.Less than a month later, from April 7 to 10, ASME will convene events in Washington surrounding the 16th annual Engineering Public Policy Symposium on Capitol Hill. Organized by ASME, the symposium will bring together leadership from 45 multidisciplinary engineering organizations representing over 2 million engineers who will hear from administration officials, members of Congress and congressional staff. ASME members will also have the opportunity to meet with their members of Congress to discuss issues pertaining to ASMEs technology strategy and the advancement of engineering. In keeping with annual tradition, the Com mittee on Government Relations will meet in conjunction with the symposium.Underscoring the importance of the symposium, the ASME Board of Governors will meet in Washington during this timeframe, demonstrating its prioritization of and participation in ASMEs public policy influence and outreach. Moreover, for the first time in D.C., the Society will hold an ASME Connect networking session that will bring together the Board of Governors with professional and student groups based in the Washington metro area. Members of the Early Career Leadership Intern Program to Serve Engineering (ECLIPSE) will also attend a leadership workshop and are invited to participate in the aforementioned events.ASMEs events on Capitol Hill will conclude with a congressional briefing on April 10 that will highlight bioengineering. ASME Executive Director Tom Costabile and ASME President Said Jahanmir will host Dean Kamen, an ASME champion and the founder of the Advanced Regenerative Manufacturing Institute (ARMI). ARMI, which sponsors BioFabUSA of the Manufacturing USA network, aims to be at the forefront of operationalizing the large-scale engineering of tissues and organs. Kamens presentation is expected to attract wide-scale attention and yield fascinating discussion.
